London. August 16. . . One of our monarchs (probably not
Kind George the second) is said to have been exceedingly
offended on finding the following lines, written with a
pencil, in one of the pavilions of Richmond Garden: They
seem intended for a parody of the famous epitaph upon King
Charles, By Wilmot Earl of Rochester:
God bless our b----p making King!
But send us soon a new one!
To do perchance a generous thing.
And sometimes speak a true one.
[signed] Merlin.
